Brussels-born Matthieu Epolo joined Standard Liege's academy at 14 from Anderlecht and rose to become the club's regular starter as a teenager, drawing attention for a remarkable run of clean sheets early in the 2024-25 season. Of Congolese descent, he switched allegiance from Belgium's youth teams in late 2025 and made his DR Congo debut against Zambia that December.
