Raised in Tashkent and schooled at Bunyodkor's academy, Abdukodir Khusanov took an unusual route to the top, launching his pro career in Belarus with Energetik-BGU before RC Lens made him the first Uzbek to play in France's Ligue 1. In January 2025 Manchester City signed the centre-back for a reported club-record fee for an Uzbek, making him the first from his country in the Premier League.
