Born in Bilbao to Ghanaian immigrant parents, Williams grew up in Pamplona and rose through Athletic Bilbao's academy to become the club's first black player to score and, later, its first black captain. A pacey, athletic forward, he set a La Liga record of 251 consecutive appearances. After one Spain cap he switched to Ghana in 2022, and he features at his second World Cup alongside that famous family name.
