Born in Karabük to a footballing father, Mert Günok came through Fenerbahçe's youth system and won league titles there before stints at Bursaspor, Başakşehir (another Süper Lig crown) and Beşiktaş. The towering 1.97m keeper became a national hero at Euro 2024 with a stoppage-time save against Austria. Now a veteran, he re-joined Fenerbahçe in January 2026 and travels to the World Cup as an experienced safe pair of hands.
