Born in the Netherlands, Deroy Duarte came through the Sparta Rotterdam academy and made over 100 appearances for the club before spells at Fortuna Sittard and, since 2024, Bulgarian champions Ludogorets, where he also features in European competition. A creative central midfielder who links defence to attack, he is the younger brother of fellow squad member Laros Duarte and a key creator at Cape Verde's first World Cup.
