Raised in Gothenburg by Assyrian parents from Basra, Kevin Yakob came through IFK Goteborg's academy and BK Hacken before moving to Denmark's AGF Aarhus in 2022. The midfielder switched from Sweden to Iraq in 2023, but suffered a cruciate ligament injury early in his senior debut against Colombia. He bounced back to enjoy a landmark 2025-26 season in Denmark.
