Nabil Bentaleb was born in Lille to Algerian parents and moved to Tottenham's academy as a teenager, breaking into the first team under Tim Sherwood. After spells at Schalke, Newcastle and Angers, the defensive midfielder returned to his boyhood club Lille in 2023. He suffered a cardiac arrest in 2024 but made a remarkable comeback, scoring minutes into his return, and brings resilience and experience to the World Cup squad.
